Common Objections to Starting a Small Business Pt.2

This is part two in a series dealing with the most common objections to staring your own business.

Hey Prof Mark here,

So last time we started talking about some objections people can give to why they “can’t” afford to start their own business. While I know the “business world” isn’t for everybody, in these articles I’ve wanted to address some “common objections” you may have that seem to be holding you back from jumping into the business arena.

So let’s get to it!

Common Objection #6: Someone is already doing what I want to do so it is useless trying to compete.

Of course other people are already doing the same thing but that’s true in the real world too. Anything that draws people is good, because that shows there is a market for buyers. If there aren’t others doing the same thing you probably can’t make money out of it. Competition shows that there is a market for your product/idea.

Common Objection #7: The only people making money are people telling others how to make money.

When you start on the Internet Marketing route you’re desperate for information and in finding it you sign up with everyone offering to help you – these are the guys (and girls) offering their services as business advisers. They are not the only businesses on the ‘Net but they are the ones you’ll come into contact with first. Just because you see these “big names” first, doesn’t mean there isn’t a handful of what we would call “normal” people making a living through internet marketing.

Common Objection #8: I’ve tried plenty of business opportunities with no success — it’s just not for me.

Maybe it’s not, but chances are, your failure is from chasing different business opportunities, instead of building your own business from the ground up. Here at Prof Mark Says, I’m not trying to get you to be in some sort of “pyramid scheme” with me, but I’m honestly trying to help you start your own work from home online business. I’m also implementing something that has a proven track record to earn people money: Affiliate Marketing. This isn’t a get rich quick scheme, but a proven means to actually generate income.

Common Objection #9: I’d need a top search engine ranking to get anywhere and that’s almost impossible.

Search engine positioning is not the be all and end all. There many are other ways to find traffic and customers. From ad words, to SEO, to podcasting, advertising, etc… there are a slew of ways to slowly build up your internet traffic. Remember, it’s a marathon, not a sprint in starting your own business. You must create a solid starting point in the concrete of your ideas, and not necessarily your “search engine” ranking.

Common Objection #10: I’d need a big advertising budget to get any results.

That’s simply not true, the ‘Net is the perfect place to do business with a small budget. Since the creation of the internet, the possibility of the proverbial “no name” becoming famous or earning big bucks has become a true prospect. As I’ve mentioned above, you don’t need thousands of dollars to start your own business, and that applies to your advertising budget too.

Now for some practical steps to think about in light of all these objections

  1. 1.Starting your own business means finding a “niche” product or idea that can be sold in some capacity to the public
  2. 2.Starting your own business is best done by employing some sort of “system” or daily “routines” that will help you to best get organized and initially build each part of your business piece by piece.
  3. 3.Once you’ve been able to start your business, routine maintenance and upkeep will help you to keep things running smoothly.

I hope this two part article has been helpful in shedding some light on what might be “fears” or “challenges” that could put you off from starting your own work from home business.

Blessings,

Prof Mark
